case study

SXSW: StubHub Sound Stage

Project Background
During SXSW, standing out in a sea of creative band posters is a significant challenge. StubHub tasked me with designing posters for their concert series, with an additional twist: the design needed to be live screen printed on demand for hundreds of attendees.

Objective
The goal was twofold: create a poster that captured the essence of food, music, and nightlife while ensuring the design was optimized for efficient, hassle-free live screen printing.

Design Concept
I crafted a bright, minimalist poster centered around a single iconic grackle—the unofficial mascot of Austin. The grackle symbolized the vibrancy of the city, while its simplicity allowed the design to remain bold and visually unique.

Technical Approach
To support the live print team’s workflow, I intentionally designed the art to simplify the screen-printing process. By eliminating the need for precise screen registration or complex overlays, I reduced the risk of print failures. This approach enabled the team to focus on efficiency and audience engagement rather than troubleshooting production issues.

Impact
The posters succeeded in grabbing attention amidst the SXSW buzz and became memorable takeaways for attendees. The live screen-printing experience was seamless, creating a connection between the audience and StubHub’s brand. The project was a an intersection of creative problem-solving, design, and technical execution.
